Huntington were happy to take our money for the first 3 months that they provided 4hrs tutoring per week for our daughter. Without any notice the HCL closed. Communication dried up. They continued to take our money. We contacted HCL corporate and they ignored us. Customers do not come first. Avoid this company like the plague if you value your sanity.

Tutoring - Gigi Biondi

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Last year I found your company online and was told and promised all these great things and how my 2nd grade daughter will improve 2 letter grades and get her on track to where she needs to be. Well, she has been going to Huntington Learning Center in Winter Garden Florida now 6+ months, almost the entire year of 2nd grade. She goes 3 times a week for 2 hours a day. She has been consistent almost always unless she was sick or we were on vacation. We spent almost $8,000 upfront on this tutoring which when I tell people they are flabbergasted!!! None the less we signed her up. Needless to say there has been little to NONE improvement in her grades, tests, quizzes if anything its stayed the same or gotten worse. She crys every time we have to go and I feel bad having to forever her every time. I figured with the amount of money we spent and time she goes we would at least see SOME improvement. But shes still coming home with Cs Ds and Fs on test and has gone down in grades on her report card since before we started. It makes me sick to my stomach that I spent 8 grand on tutoring and have seen zero progress with her grades at school. This was not our situation last year with a private tutor at home. Im very upset with Huntington especially because I am supposed to get progress meetings every month with the owner or director on how shes doing or at least thats what I was told and Ive only had 2 meetings which were last year in November and December. No one has called or reached out for more. The time we did have a scheduled conference it had to be rescheduled for whatever reason and they said they would call to do so and never did. The director or manager that was there apparently no longer is and we were never informed or anything. I have zero clue as to whats going on with my daughter during her tutoring sessions or when she will be completed. I am so upset that I spent all this money for honestly what I feel like nothing. Im still having to teacher and tutor my daughter even more on top of her going to school and your company. At this point I demand a refund and a phone call from someone hire up in this company. This is inexcusable and the worst experience Ive been through when it comes to a tutor. Thank you. Dana Biondi

Suitable for some

We've tried out a few different learning centers (HLC, Kumon etc.,) and have mixed opinions for them. Learning centers can be helpful in a sense that they help hone in and practice specific weaknesses but could be a bit tedious for kids. Our kids did learn from the centers but we were hoping for a more flexible and adaptable learning style. We finally landed on Beestar and have been using it for years and have really enjoyed the ability for the kids to adapt and learn in their own way. Beestar also has an amazing GT program for the kids that they've really enjoyed.

Have not received any feedback yet

I m not a pissed customer, just a concerned tv viewer about the wordings of your tv commercial which stayed that the student got straight A's and B's. Since you're a learning center, I thought the wordings of your commercial should be accurate. Any kids with straight A's means the grades in all subjects are A"s period, there should be no B's. Is that wrong English phrase? Thanks

Dissatisfaction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
APlainfield office-- See the yelp review for details. Suffice to say-- website advertises 229 avg SAT score increase-- we got 20-- only wanted 100 point increase. They suggested 8 hrs/week tutoring to achieve score, which we endured. Brain was mush and had trouble concentrating. They say they analyze each child's needs, but clearly this was not the right thing for my child. After telling them about the 20 point SAT increase, their solution was to do more tutoring with them and take it again. Imagine that-- more of the same which had already been proven to be a failure!

Jay Mistry owner of the Franchise in Fresno CA, took advance tuition for my daughter's study course, for one year in October 2019. He closed down the center on March 1,2020 without giving the refund. He emailed and send a text message saying he could not renew the Lease. He has taken advance tuition from many other students parents and did not refund. The tuition money which I lost is about $3000.

I went at Huntington learning center to learn ged test. I paid 12 000 for 7 months. becouse director said i am getting discount if i pay up front .When I start lessons teachers could not prepare me because they told me I need ESL teacher first that I am not ready for ged test, but director refuse to give me money back, and I was forced to go in class and hear teachers telling me we are not ESl(english as a second language) teachers and I had very hard time, I was taking time off from school with directors permition that I would not be charged for this time off . I was trying to read books by myself to learn English better but I could not. My American friend told at main office and tell them that i will take them to court . Owner of Huntington called us to me and my friend he said he will refund me only 5 tausand dollar back , I have 21 lessons done , 1 lesson for two hours 3, 780 dollar of amount. But they only promised to return 5,000 . i had to get back 8,220 dollar. (Because 1 lesson is 90 dollar) .they're just stilling my 3,220 dollar because owner said I been charged for not going at class which is not true I had permit ion from director that I would not be charged for taking time off. They don't had to take my money because I was not ready for ged test they lie they told me I am ready .

Owner Bullying my Child

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
It has come to my attention today on 07/22/19, that my son was being bullied by the owner of the company Mrs. Liz. One thing I will not allow is a bullying child, so to hear the owner of this franchise is bullying my son is a serious problem. In todays society, children are committing suicide behind being bullied and I will not take this lightly as a parent. To see an educational facility that operates with child daily is the prominent location of a child being bullied. Mrs. Liz told my son on yesterday 07/21/19 that the previous tutoring facilty in Aventura location he attended with Mr. Eric no longer wanted him. In addition, I never received a complaint from Eric about my child. My children have been tutoring with Eric from 2012 to 2016 and never received a complaint from him. This is heartbreaking to see both of these businesses are not here to focis on children needs but to focus on bullying and belittling children who are under their care for 2 hrs a day 3 times a week. Mrs. Liz also told my son he will amount to nothing but a Target employee. My son is entering the 9th grade and never repeated a grade. He is on the varsity football team as a freshmen. Mrs. Liz needs to understand as a facilitator this type of action will not be tolerarted by this parent or her child. Obviuosly, this type of behavior from her is normal because everything incident I mentioned to her she replied saying she apologized to my son. I am in tears writing about this humiliation my son had to endure at her facility for over 3 years. Lets make this public, parents ask your children on a daily basis about their tutoring environment. This is a vivid example of adult bullying a child. The owner of Huntingtoning Learning Center located at 10044 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024.

I have big issue with huntington. They suck as tutors.

My daughter need it help with algebra and they promised they would help, but instead of helping her, they helped me to get rid of some cash. The tutor was not even a math teacher and they looked for answers on google where they still got all wrong.

Very dissatisfied with them and i'm looking for a way to get refund that they refuse to do. They promised her grade will go up, but instead it dropped lower.

Hi Nonstop, I am responding to you from Huntington Learning Center corporate HQ. We’re sorry that the program didn’t live up to your expectations, however, we would love to understand in a little more detail about the program which was prescribed, and further understand the outcome of the other 80 hours.

Programs are prescribed based on the initial academic evaluation and although there may have been a deficiency in math, the ideal program to help your daughter identified only 35 hours needed for math. We would like to speak to you further about this.

Please contact us. 1-80*-***-****

Not One to One

This tutor can vouch its not 1-1 tutoring. They say it's 1-1 but unless the parent specifically requests that, its usually more like 1-3. In fact at the outfit I work for if it is less than 1-3 they may send the tutor home. Profit is the bottom line. The staff at my office also are more business background. So they look at the setup as a business. Tutors are just paid to be there for the hours and any input or ideas they have are optional. Because of their business background the office manager really treats the students like they are part-taking in "make-up" time for "deficient grades." That kind of attitude transforms the environment into something punitive and the work students tell me is "drudgery." Of course the office manager who has a sterling background from a foreign university just thinks that "drudgery" is fine since that is how she drives herself. I have suggested to make the place more fun, offer snacks especially at the one-hour mark, or just if they feel hungry before starting. She IGNORES my suggestions mostly. She gives them the snack at the end of 2-hour as they leave out the door! Same thing with motivational toys and stuff, she stows it away and pretends like she is the one who purchased! Just about any idea I have she makes out like it's her idea! And then I wanted to have a summer camp idea or spelling bee or games and all that if it's not part of the established HLC curricula it is not an option....HLC does have nice interesting curricula but the set up is quite like any other franchise. Instead of being a maid at Merry Maids, or a worker at Dunkin Donuts, here you have the honorific of "Tutor," someone who can be of practically any background, and they seem to have quite a long payroll of phantom tutors for a small outfit at my location too.....Anyway, at least they hired me and I do the best that I can as a tutor...Sure nothing to put away on a rainy day with though....The set up is so transparent even the students don't really respect the tutors, seeing that they come and go. Furthermore, the students can't tell quality tutor when they see one, such as all they see is skin color, a heap of degrees, or someone to hug. So there becomes a favoritism based only on popularity which is quite arbitrary and again which the business oriented staff acquiesce to. There is also no incentive to do anything like put up a web-page for the tutors, to have us share our profile with parents, etc.

Grassroots Newswire "trademark" use for For-Profit Education Plagiarized Press Release

Huntington Learning Center sent out a press release under "grassroots newswire." This is a press release dated this week. Furthermore, the release had plagiarized paragraphs from a 2006 "Teachers nationwide to receive a bit thanks!; PTA provides ideas for teacher appreciation week, May 7-13." [https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Teachers+Nationwide+to+Receive+a+Big+Thanks!%3b+PTA+Provides+Ideas+for...-a014523****] This press release was tweeked a little but there the format and a lot of the wording is similar if not the same, and being used as a Huntington Learning Center teacher appreciation day press release mailer in May 2019. It is abominable that the press release is partly awarded a grant by the National Education Association as if they approved of the wording and purpose of grassroots appreciation day for a for-profit tutoring business, rather than for parents at public schools hoping to improve their parent teacher relationship. And why is Teacher Appreciation Week now a Week instead of a Day? If I were a teacher I would puke at the notion, but for Sad tutors it is hyperbole to presume they are teachers.... At a time when teachers are being downsized why all this power posturing. We need a grassroots week for parents called "National Appreciation Week for Parents." That would be real grassroots! Overhiring data collection suspicious

Sorry you lost so much. You should have insisted in installments. The franchises do vary. You were right in reporting to corporate. What I see is that as an employee they routinely overhire. I think they are using hiring to collect data. I submitted transcripts to them and they disappeared. No matter how qualified or experienced they are arbitrary in terms of hours. You absolutely cannot earn a decent living. While I know tutors been there eight months they still only get 2-4 hours and with more tutors than students they are still hiring and still cycling in new tutors. It is quite bizarre. They tell us that we are just like replaceable parts, you know like automobile spark plugs. That hardly does justice to our years in university or teaching. But what do people w/ accounting degrees care? But its quite demoraling and the franchise owners can do what they like on the side with all the info collected such as run a passport agency.

Paid in full for my kids program. Month later saw no results. Promised upon sign up a detailed conference with both kids teachers. Never carried out. Now the refund amount is short over a $1000. Being charged for services not rendered. Messed up. Spent half an hour talking about the refund policy all the ins and outs upon sign up. Next step is filing with the better business bureau. Hoping that they can help in resolving this matter quickly. Just so wrong when a business rips you off after u showed them good will and payed them in payed them in full

Response from Huntington Learning Center Plantation, Florida

I am the proud owner of the Huntington Learning Center in Plantation, Florida and am aware of lanabeny@***.com's concerns. I have attempted on numerous occasions to meet with both her and dad to discuss the situation, all attempts at scheduling a meeting have been unsuccessful.

For almost 40 years, Huntington's highly trained tutors have worked one-to-one with thousands of students of all ages to improve their grades, raise college entrance exam test scores and gain academic confidence.

Whether a student is struggling in school or wants to ace an important exam, our expert educators know how to help.

In this case the first student attended for less than 17% of the prescribed hours and was absent from scheduled classes close to 62% of the time. The second student was instructed less than 20% of the prescribed hours and was absent from scheduled classes 58% of the time. Unfortunately, when a student does not attend consistently and for such a short period it is difficult to show marked improvement in the classroom.

Our tutoring and test prep programs are tailored to the unique needs of each student and get the best results in the tutoring and test prep industry. After only three months of tutoring, Huntington students have achieved 2+ grade levels growth in reading and math, 4+ point increases on the ACT and 200+ point increases on their SAT score.

We are successful when the recommendations are followed, students attend consistently, and parents support the investment they are making in their child.

If you have any questions about our program please call 1 800 CAN LEARN or visit our website at HuntingtonHelps.com.

Rip Off Report of Huntington Learning Center

Do not use this tutoring company. After knowingly taking $3680 for prepaid tutoring, despite being insolvent and financially unsound, they closed three of their centers after sending a midnight email to students and parents announcing their immediate closure. The closing was timed so that the children were left without tutors in the 2 week prior to the start of the ACT exams. The success of the children did not matter to the Corporate office either. The Corporate office did nothing to assist those children who needed immediate assistance and in fact did everything to ensure further damage to their futures when they easily could have helped. More employees are quitting every day. There is no stability or consistency in the employees and little chance of success for your student. I intend to file suit to not only recover the moneys I paid, but to also recover damage to my daughter as a result of their failure to provide the services.
